# Getting found by ChatGPT and Gemini

How a business gets recommended when people ask ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI assistants. From Ownbox, built by Brian MacDonald in Orange County, California. Updated 2026-10-18.

## How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Answer the questions your customers ask, on your own website, in a form AI assistants can quote. AI assistants answer from what they can find and read. A page that opens with a short, direct answer to a real question is easy for them to use.

## What is AEO?

AEO stands for answer engine optimization. It means writing your website's content so AI assistants (the answer engines) can find it, trust it and quote it. It is to ChatGPT what SEO is to Google.

## What should each page do?

- **Answer one real question** a customer asks.
- **Open with the answer** in the first sentence or two.
- **Use the customer's words.**
- **Use only numbers and facts you can stand behind.**
- **Carry markup** that tells search engines and AI assistants what the page answers.

## How do I know which questions to answer?

Start with what customers already ask you by email, DM and phone, and what they type into Google. Then ask ChatGPT those same questions and see who it recommends.

## How do I know if it is working?

Count the visits that come from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Check whether the AI assistants open your pages. Google Search Console shows what people searched to find you.

## Can this be done automatically?

Yes. The SEO Machine on an Ownbox does all of it:

- finds the questions
- writes the answers
- checks each one against the business's rules
- publishes it on the business's own website
- counts the visits from AI assistants
