# Custom machines on Ownbox

How a business or a developer adds its own machine to an Ownbox. Updated 2026-10-18.

## What is a machine?

A machine is a job an Ownbox does every day, like answering messages or publishing articles. Each one plugs into the Ownbox foundation and gets:

- a page on the dashboard
- a place in the queue
- its own tools on the MCP server

One Ownbox runs as many machines as the owner wants.

## Can I build my own machine?

Yes, in either of two ways:

1. **Describe it in plain words.** On an Ownbox, you describe the machine you want. Your Ownbox builds it and tests it on your real data without sending anything. It installs only when you approve.
2. **Build it as a developer.** A developer starts free on their own computer: one line, with no sign-up and no card.

## Why build on Ownbox instead of from scratch?

Every machine starts with more than 200 hours of groundwork already done:

- logins and roles
- a phone app
- the owner's own AI
- an MCP server
- security and updates

## Can someone build a machine for me?

Yes. Brian MacDonald, who built Ownbox, builds custom machines for companies. Book a call at https://cal.com/brianmacdonald/20min

## Which machines are coming?

- **In development:** an AI voice agent.
- **Open for partners to design with Ownbox:** lead, outbound, reels and YouTube machines.
